Hurdle 1: the assignment submissions
Now that we are in delivery mode with some very patient and willing learners, we realise a few pieces were missing from our googlesite - such as a page where the learners can upload their assignments- created one - then realised that the interactive functions of this site are only apparent when learners are also editors.
So to fix that I will give them access as editors so that they can happily attach documents and comment on the pages. This still maintains the integrity of the site as other pages cannot be amended by public viewers. The learners love it because they don't need to login.
Hurdle 2: the volunteers portal
The spanner in the works here was the need to pay for the upgrade so that we could continue to use the Ning site with all bells and whistles.
So to fix that we've now upgraded to Premium contract (inexpensive really at just $200 au pa) and the learners love it because they can use it for marketing their recruitment of volunteers process and provide link s to other groups such as those in Facebook.
Hurdle 3: assessment process
The nature of this course is all about working with people who move from the community to applying as a recruit, to becoming a new volunteer and then to becoming respected members of staff. Much of the success of being a coordinator of volunteers is how you relate to the volunteers and the staff, during this journeey, and what and how you say it. We can do the written answers and receive documentsion, but we don't have a voice tool in the googlesite to enable the candidate to be interviewed (assessed verbally).
So to fix that we are advocating that the candidate prepare for a verbal assessment (interview with assessor) using scenario based questioning in Elluminate breakout room facilities. Will it work?
